To Brennan [1] , Indian Reservation,
Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
You may proceed along the lines of Colonel Cody's suggestion guarding in every way the welfare of the Indians. Commissioner Sells [2] sends me the following answer to my telegram to him quote no objection here to having moving pictures made at Pine Ridge in accordance with your telegram twenty sixth if taken on reservation with understanding that such action will not interfere with industrial or educational pursuits or training. Suggest pictures be taken under supervision Superintendent Brennan unless for some special reason it is desirable that Major McLaughlin [3] or some other official supervise them end quote. I have notified Bonfils [4] , Cody and Sells.

Note 1: Major John Richard Brennan (1848-1919) was superintendent at Pine Ridge Indian School, Pine Ridge, South Dakota, from 1900 to 1917. [back]
Note 2: Cato Sells (1859-1948) was a commissioner at the Office of Indian Affairs from 1913 to 1921. [back]
Note 3: Major James "White Hair" McLaughlin (1842-1923) became a United States Service Indian Agent at Standing Rock Sioux Agency in 1881; on December 15, 1890, McLaughlin ordered the arrest of Sitting Bull who was murdered the next morning. [back]
Note 4: Frederick Gilmer Bonfils (1860-1933) was co-owner, along with Harry Heye Tammen, of the Denver Post and the Kansas City Post. Bonfils and Tammen also co-owned the Sells-Floto Circus. [back]
Note 5: Franklin Knight Lane (1864-1921) served as United States Secretary of the Interior from 1913 to 1920. [back]
