Yours recd— Now if Forbs [3] wont put up— Nor Bleistein & others— the mill will have to go over another year. I cant build it Alone— The timber might be sawed for it. For the mill will have to be built Sooner or later— And the mill lumber will keep— And we will have it ready— If Bleistein wires me he can raise two or three thousand allright. But it must be a steam and water mill combined what will it cost to add   steam? How much did Jones [4] owe— colony people [5] ?

Note 3: "Forbs" is Forbes, who oversaw the construction of the Cody Trading Company. When the building was completed Forbes was replaced by Jacob M. "Jake" Schwoob who had been manager of the Iroquois Hotel in Buffalo, New York, which was owned by Henry M. Gerrans. [back]

Note 4: C. B. Jones, land agent from Galesburg, Illinois, brought settlers to the Big Horn Basin area of Wyoming. [back]

Note 5: "Colony people" refers to the settlers in the Big Horn Basin. [back]

Note 6: Cody uses the letter "L" instead of spelling out "hell." [back]
