Denver, Colorado.

Instructions have been sent Major Brennan [2] to permit arrangements you desire. Your efforts must be carried on so as not to interfere with industries and education at the reservation and strict regulations as to the mode of life of the Indians. Trust you will bring out strongly as possible Colonel Cody's suggestion for program showing the advance of the Indians xcxng under modern conditions. Please advise Colonel Cody that I received his note and found that he had gone.

Note 1: Frederick Gilmer Bonfils (1860-1933) was co-owner, along with Harry Heye Tammen, of the Denver Post and the Kansas City Post. Bonfils and Tammen also co-owned the Sells-Floto Circus. [back]

Note 2: Major John Richard Brennan (1848-1919) was superintendent at Pine Ridge Indian School, Pine Ridge, South Dakota, from 1900 to 1917. [back]

Note 3: Franklin Knight Lane (1864-1921) served as United States Secretary of the Interior from 1913 to 1920. [back]
